Worried that the thread lift Korea cost quoted on a forum leaves out the swelling, the extra threads and the workdays you might lose after a short trip?

Before you build a weekend around it, read this through.

You'll know what reviews get right and wrong, which thread methods suit which part of the face, what recovery asks of your schedule and what moves the price, so you can decide whether threads fit your face and your budget on this trip.

Hello, I'm Sarang Lim, M.D., Head Doctor at Muse Clinic Myeongdong and an advisory doctor for NOVA Thread.

We're open Saturday and Sunday from 9 AM to 3 PM, a one-minute walk from Myeongdong Station Exit 5. Foreign patients pay the same listed prices as Korean patients, and an interpreter stays with you from consultation through treatment.

I wrote this because forum price talk usually compares one total for a thread lift, while what you're really paying for is how many threads go in and where.

Your cost is set by the number and type of threads, the areas treated and how many days you can give the swelling before you fly. Threads suit early sagging; they won't hold heavy, loose skin.

Take one photo of your face from the side by a window and send it on WhatsApp with the question on your mind, for example: is my jawline a thread case, or is it too early? Asking about your own profile gets you further than comparing package names.

Why do thread lift quotes online look so different?

A thread lift is sold by the thread, and quotes rarely say how many. One quote might cover a few threads along each jawline; another might cover the jaw, cheeks and the area under the chin with several times as many. Some include numbing, some list it separately, and forum posts tend to report the total without the count.

The threads themselves are thin, absorbable sutures, commonly made of materials such as PDO, PLLA or PCL, placed under the skin through a fine needle or cannula. Barbed threads grip tissue and reposition it; smooth threads mostly prompt collagen to form around them as they dissolve. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons describes thread lifts as a less invasive option suited to people with mild to moderate signs of aging, rather than significant sagging.

So when two people compare totals on a forum, they're often comparing different amounts of work. The question worth asking any clinic is how many threads, of which type, in which areas.

Thread lifting methods on our menu

At Muse Clinic Myeongdong there are three thread menus, each listed with its prices on the website:

Which one makes sense comes from your face. Early jowls and a softening jawline are where lifting threads usually belong. Flat cheeks that have also lost some fullness are where a thread that adds volume enters the conversation. Nose threads answer a separate question about the bridge and tip.

People searching for a chin thread lift often mean the line under the jaw. If the fullness there is fat more than loose skin, threads alone won't remove it, and that's worth knowing before you pay for them.

Thread lift Korea cost: what decides it for your face?

Five things move the figure.

Reception desk at the Muse Clinic Myeongdong dermatology clinic
Reception desk at the Muse Clinic Myeongdong dermatology clinic
  1. 01Number of threads. This is the biggest lever. A light jawline correction and a full lower face take very different counts.
  2. 02Type of thread. Lifting threads and threads that also add volume are listed as separate menus.
  3. 03Areas. Jawline, cheeks and under the chin can be done alone or together, and the nose is its own menu.
  4. 04Numbing and add-ons. Thread lifts are usually done under local anaesthesia; ask what your option includes, and whether you'd add another treatment in the same visit.
  5. 05Days in Seoul. More days give swelling time to settle before you fly and leave room to be seen again if something feels off. That is a hotel cost, and it belongs in your budget too.

All of our listed prices exclude VAT, and they're the same for foreign and Korean patients. To get the figure for your own face, ask on WhatsApp what it would cost for your case and name the one area that bothers you most.

Say you have three days in Seoul

Say you teach English in Tokyo, you're 35, and you've noticed the line of your jaw softening. You have Friday to Sunday in Seoul and classes on Monday morning. Early softening at the jaw is the kind of change threads can address, so threads are worth discussing here.

I'd want the treatment on Saturday morning rather than Sunday, so you have a day and a half before the flight. Swelling and some bruising are usually most visible in the first two or three days, so on Monday you may still look a little puffy along the jaw, and a bruise may need concealer. You'd also need to go easy on wide yawns, hard chewing and sleeping face-down for the first couple of weeks. If your summer break is a fortnight away, that longer window is kinder to your schedule.

If your skin is heavy and already folds at the jaw, more threads won't fix that, and I would tell you so before you spend anything. Genuine product and correct dosage apply to threads too. The count should follow your face, and a package size is no reason to add more.

If that sounds like your weekend, send your travel dates and the day you're back at work on WhatsApp, and ask how many threads a concern like yours usually starts with. Having those dates in front of you makes it easier to choose between this trip and a longer break.

What thread lift reviews get right, and what they leave out

Most review threads about thread lifts in Seoul circle around four claims.

Pulling or tightness when yawning or chewing in the first days. This is common and expected. Barbed threads hold tissue in a new position, and the tension usually eases over one to two weeks.

The lift dropped after a month. Partly true, and often misread. Some of the early fullness is swelling, so what you see once it settles is the actual result. Collagen forming around the threads builds over the following weeks, and the effect fades gradually as the threads dissolve.

A thread could be felt under the skin. This can happen, especially where skin is thin, and the American Society of Plastic Surgeons lists visible or palpable threads among the known risks. It's a reason to get it checked, and a reason never to try pulling a thread out yourself.

Dimples mean it went wrong. Small dimples or puckering at entry points or along the thread line are common early and usually smooth out as swelling settles. A dimple that's still there after a few weeks should be looked at.

What reviews rarely mention is the number of threads used, the one detail that makes another person's experience comparable to yours.

How long is recovery, and what does 2 weeks after a thread lift look like?

For the first two or three days, expect swelling, tenderness and possibly bruising around the entry points. Most people can walk around and eat soft food the same day, and a cool compress helps. The first week asks you to avoid wide mouth opening, hard or chewy food, sleeping face-down, facial massage, saunas and hard workouts. Dental appointments are better left for later.

By about two weeks after a thread lift, swelling and bruising have usually settled, most early dimples have smoothed, and the pulling sensation has faded for many people. That's the point where you see the lift as it is, without the puffiness.

Flying a day or two after treatment is generally fine for most people. A travel pillow that presses on your jaw is the part to skip, so keep your head supported from behind.

Risks and side effects to know

Common and usually temporary effects are swelling, bruising, tenderness, a tight or pulling feeling, small dimples, and mild unevenness between sides while swelling settles. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons also lists infection, visible or palpable threads, thread migration and the need to remove a thread among possible complications. Results vary from person to person, and so does how long they last. The number of threads and the exact plan are confirmed at your consultation.

As general medicine, it's wiser to wait or skip threads if you have:

  • an active skin infection, acne flare or cold sore near the treatment area
  • a pregnancy, or you are breastfeeding
  • a bleeding disorder, or you take blood thinners (don't stop them on your own; tell the doctor)
  • filler or another procedure recently done in the same area
  • a tendency to keloid scars
  • heavy, loose skin that threads can't hold

If after flying home you notice pain that keeps getting worse, spreading redness and warmth, discharge, fever, or a thread end poking through the skin, see a doctor where you live promptly and don't pull at it. The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention advises medical travelers to plan follow-up care before they leave and to bring copies of their records home, so ask for a note of what was placed in your face. You can also send photos to us on WhatsApp.

If you take blood thinners, have had filler in your cheeks or jaw, or have a skin condition on your face, mention it in your first WhatsApp message. Those details shape which option makes sense, so it helps to have them on the table early.

Should you skip threads on this trip?

Sometimes the answer is yes. If you have an event with photos within a few days, the swelling window is too tight. If you're flying out the same evening, you lose the chance to be seen again before you leave. And if your concern is skin quality more than sag, a lifting device may fit better: our menu also has ultrasound and RF lifting, and Shurink Universe lifting explains one of them.

For more on thread materials and placement, see PDO thread lifting in Seoul. The full treatment list shows every thread option, and you can read about my training and advisory roles. A structured consultation with an interpreter comes first, and then I plan and perform the treatment one-to-one, on the 3rd floor of Korea Daeyungak Tower, 97 Toegye-ro, across from Shinsegae Department Store.

Message us on WhatsApp with a side photo taken by a window and the dates you're free, and ask what threads for your jawline would cost for that trip. Nothing needs to be booked before you ask. At your visit, I'll examine your face in person and recommend the option that fits it.

Questions people ask

Before you message us

How many threads does a jawline usually need?

There is no standard count. A light correction along the jaw takes far fewer threads than a lower face that also includes the cheeks and the area under the chin, and thicker or heavier skin changes the picture again. The count for your face is set at the consultation, after an examination of how much the skin has descended and how thick it is.

Is the thread lift Korea cost the same for foreigners?

At Muse Clinic Myeongdong it is. Foreign and Korean patients pay the same listed prices, with no foreigner markup, and every thread option is published on our website with prices excluding VAT. Because the total moves with the number of threads and the areas, the useful step is to ask on WhatsApp what your own case would cost, with a side photo.

Can I combine threads with another lifting treatment on the same trip?

Many people pair threads with an RF or ultrasound lifting treatment, since one repositions tissue and the other works on skin firmness. Whether both suit the same visit, and in which order, is a question for the consultation. If you plan to combine them, leave a little more time in Seoul so swelling from both can settle before your flight.

Does a thread lift hurt?

Thread lifts are usually done under local anaesthesia, so most people describe pressure and a tugging sensation during placement more than sharp pain. Afterwards, soreness and tightness are common for several days, especially when yawning or chewing. Over-the-counter pain relief that your own doctor considers safe for you, cool compresses and soft food usually make the first days manageable.

Can threads be removed if I don't like them?

Absorbable threads dissolve gradually over time. If a thread is clearly visible, poking through or causing persistent puckering, it can sometimes be adjusted or taken out, which is easier early on. Never try to pull a thread yourself. If you notice something like this after flying home, see a doctor locally and send photos on WhatsApp.

Results and maintenance period vary by individual. Every procedure carries the possibility of side effects, which are explained before you agree to treatment. Prices exclude 10% VAT and event prices may change. This article is general information from the clinic and is not a diagnosis; suitability is decided at the consultation.
