Korean HIFU is the treatment most visitors mean when they ask for "lifting without surgery" in Seoul. HIFU stands for high-intensity focused ultrasound: the device focuses sound energy at set depths under the skin, creating small thermal coagulation points. The tissue around each point contracts and then rebuilds collagen over the following weeks, which is what firms a soft jawline or a heavy cheek.
At Muse Clinic Myeongdong the workhorse for this is Shurink Universe, from ₩41,000 (excl. 10% VAT) for a 100-shot session. This article covers what the modes do, how shot counts are chosen, what the price depends on, and the honest 3-month timeline.
What Korean HIFU actually does under the skin
Creams and facials work on the surface. HIFU skips the surface entirely and places its energy deeper, including the SMAS layer that a surgeon would tighten in a facelift. Nothing is cut, and nothing is injected.
Shurink Universe uses two enhanced handpieces and two solid ultrasound modes, mixed across Booster, F, MP and Dot settings depending on the skin condition and the area being treated. Up to 400 thermal coagulation points deliver the energy, and the bilateral irradiation method fires from two sides, which speeds the session up and lowers the pain compared with single-sided delivery. The small curved areas — around the mouth corners, under the chin — can be treated in detail rather than skipped.
Who Shurink Universe suits, and who it does not
Our list describes the typical patient in plain terms: someone bothered by a sagging face line, someone who wants lifting in curved and delicate areas plus an overall firmer face line, someone seeing wrinkles from ageing, and someone who wants a tighter, stronger lift than the earlier Shurink generation gave.
- Soft or blurred jawline that photographs heavier than it feels
- Cheeks that have started to drop, changing the impression of the face
- Ageing wrinkles alongside a general loss of firmness
- Wanting detailed lifting on small curved areas, not just broad passes
- Not a match: width caused by chewing muscle, or by volume under the chin
If the lower face is wide because the chewing muscle is overbuilt, ultrasound will not narrow it — that is what jaw Botox is for, and I explain the difference in our jowls article. If the skin is very thin and the concern is only around the eyes or neck, Focus Dual handles those thin, delicate zones instead.

Korean HIFU price at Muse: what changes the number
Two things move the price. Shot count — a focused 100-shot session on one zone against a 1000-shot plan that covers the face broadly. And what is combined — the 600-shot Shurink Universe session paired with 400 shots of ALL TITE radiofrequency is one sitting that works on two different depths, with an option to add Skin vive or Restylane Vital.

The visit: what happens step by step
- 01Consultation with an interpreter, then the head doctor checks where your skin is loose and agrees the areas and shot count with you.
- 02Self-cleansing: makeup and sunscreen come off completely.
- 03Numbing cream is applied and left to work.
- 04Ultrasound gel goes on so the handpiece glides and the energy couples into the skin.
- 05Treatment: lines of focused ultrasound, area by area, modes mixed as planned.
- 06Finishing: gel is removed and the skin is soothed before you leave.
| When | What you notice |
|---|---|
| Day 0 | Warmth, some redness, sometimes a mildly tightened feeling from the heat. Occasional small puffiness. |
| Days 1–3 | Redness settles. Tenderness when pressing along the jaw or cheekbone is common. |
| Weeks 2–4 | Tenderness gone. Skin starts feeling firmer to the touch; changes are subtle in photos. |
| Months 2–3 | New collagen has built. This is when the jaw and cheek line usually look clearest. |
Results and how long they last vary from person to person. Thicker, heavier skin needs more patience than thin skin, and someone with significant laxity will see a change in firmness rather than a change in face shape.
Risks, and the part clinics skip
HIFU is non-invasive, but it is still heat placed under your skin, and side effects are possible. You should hear them before you agree, not after.
- Redness and warmth for a short period after the session.
- Tenderness or an ache when chewing or pressing the treated area, for several days.
- Temporary puffiness, most often along the jaw.
- Rare nerve-related tingling or numbness that resolves over time.
- Very lean faces can look flatter if energy is placed over areas with little fat, which is why the plan is mapped before the first line is fired.
Korean HIFU vs the other lifting tools we run
HIFU is not the only lifting option on our menu, and it is not always the one I choose. The difference is depth and the kind of energy used.
| Treatment | Energy | Best used for |
|---|---|---|
| Shurink Universe | Focused ultrasound, several modes mixed | Overall face line, jaw, cheeks, curved detail areas |
| Focus Dual | Focused ultrasound plus RF with vacuum tips | Thin, delicate zones: eyelids, eye area, neck wrinkles |
| Ulthera Lifting | Focused ultrasound, original device and genuine tips | Patients who specifically want the original ultrasound platform |
| ALL TITE | Radiofrequency delivered from dermis toward SMAS | Combining with HIFU to work two depths in one sitting |
If you are comparing the ultrasound platforms directly, our Ultherapy in Seoul post goes through shots and recovery, and the Thermage article covers the radiofrequency side of the same question.
Why visitors book Korean HIFU at Muse Clinic Myeongdong
Three things we put in writing. One price list, identical to the Korean price, with every option published online. Interpreters in the clinic in English, Japanese and Chinese, staying with you from consultation through treatment. The head doctor plans and performs the session one to one after the consultation — that is Dr. Sarang Lim, and the same person who maps your shot count is the one holding the handpiece.
Practical trip details: we are on the 3rd floor of the Korea Daeyungak Tower, a one-minute walk from Myeongdong Station Exit 5, near Hoehyeon Station Exit 7 across from Shinsegae. Hours are Monday to Friday 10:00–20:00 and Saturday to Sunday 09:00–15:00, so a weekend session between shopping stops is realistic. Parking in the same building is ₩1,000 per 10 minutes with no base fee.

Questions people ask
Before you message us
How much does Korean HIFU cost in Seoul?
At Muse Clinic Myeongdong the Shurink Universe list starts at ₩41,000 excl. 10% VAT for a 100-shot session under our messenger-friend offer, with a regular 100-shot option, a 1000-shot full-coverage option and a combination session with ALL TITE above it. Every number is the same one a Korean patient is quoted. Event prices run for a limited period, so the treatment page always shows the current list.
How many HIFU shots do I need for my face?
Shots are lines of ultrasound energy, so the count follows the area you want covered, not your age. A 100-shot session concentrates on one zone such as the jawline or cheeks. Broader plans across the lower face and neck use several hundred to a thousand. I decide the count after checking where your skin actually moves when you lie down and when you sit up.
Does Shurink Universe HIFU hurt?
Most people describe short deep pulses of heat, strongest along the jawbone where skin sits close to bone. Numbing cream is applied before the treatment, and the device fires from two sides, which shortens the time spent on each area. Pain tolerance varies a lot from person to person, so tell me during the session and I adjust the energy rather than push through.
When do Korean HIFU results show?
There is often a mild tightened feeling on the same day from the heat itself, and that settles. The real change comes from new collagen forming, which builds over roughly 2 to 3 months. That is why I ask visitors not to judge the result in the mirror at the airport. Results and how long they last vary from person to person.
How often should HIFU be repeated?
Skin keeps ageing after the treatment, so the firmness gained slowly fades. Many patients come back for another session once or twice a year, and some prefer smaller shot counts more often on one stubborn area. Your own interval depends on your skin thickness, how much laxity you started with, and how visible you want the maintenance to be.
Can I get HIFU on a short trip to Seoul?
Yes, it is a common request from visitors because there is no dressing and no stitches to plan around. Redness or mild puffiness can last a short while, so I would not book it for the same day as a wedding or a photo shoot. We are one minute from Myeongdong Station Exit 5 and open Saturday and Sunday 09:00–15:00.
Results and maintenance period vary by individual. Every procedure carries the possibility of side effects, which are explained before you agree to treatment. Prices exclude 10% VAT and event prices may change. This article is general information from the clinic and is not a diagnosis; suitability is decided at the consultation.
