Turkey neck is the phrase patients use when the skin between the chin and the collarbone stops holding itself up — loose, crepey, with vertical cords that appear when you turn your head or speak. It is usually the first place people notice ageing after they have spent years looking after the face. The good news is that a neck like this rarely needs surgery to look better; it needs the layers under the skin tightened and refilled with collagen.
At Muse Clinic Myeongdong we treat a turkey neck with three tools: ultrasound lifting, radiofrequency lifting and threads. Price anchors are from ₩199,000 for Ulthera Lifting, from ₩169,000 for DENSITY and from ₩100,000 for thread lifting, all excl. 10% VAT. This guide explains which one answers which kind of neck, what recovery looks like, and where each stops working.
What actually causes a turkey neck
Neck skin is thin, has fewer oil glands than the face, and moves constantly. Collagen and elastin in the dermis thin out with age and sun exposure, so the skin no longer springs back. Underneath, the flat platysma muscle loosens and its edges become visible as two vertical cords.
On top of that, many people carry a small fat pad under the chin, and years of looking down at a phone fold the same horizontal lines into the same places. Most necks I see are a mix of all four. That is why one device rarely fixes a turkey neck on its own, and why I would rather sequence treatments than promise a single session will do it.
- Thin, crepey skin texture with fine horizontal lines — a dermis problem
- Skin hanging along the jawline and under the chin — a deeper support problem
- Vertical cords that appear when you speak — the platysma muscle edges
- Fullness under the chin that blurs the jaw angle — volume, not looseness
- Sun damage on the front of the neck that never got sunscreen
The three neck tightening procedures we use
Ulthera Lifting — ultrasound, for a neck that is sagging
Focused ultrasound passes through the surface and heats small points in a deeper support layer, which contracts and then rebuilds collagen over the following weeks. Nothing is cut, and the whole session runs under 30 minutes. We check the tip and product originality in front of you before we start — genuine products at the correct dose is the clinic's first motto.
I would choose this when the problem is gravity: skin drifting down off the jawline, a blurred angle between chin and neck. There is also a Double Chin Package that combines a smaller number of Ultherapy shots with a Gold Accu contour injection and two tightening injections, which suits the neck that is part looseness and part fullness. If you want the full shot-count breakdown, read our note on Ultherapy in Seoul.
DENSITY — radiofrequency, for crepey skin and fine lines
DENSITY is non-invasive radiofrequency that works in the dermis, the layer where the crepey texture of a turkey neck lives. It combines monopolar and bipolar energy, cools the surface across five levels, and uses an impedance feedback system that adjusts for how much resistance your own skin gives, so the energy lands evenly rather than in hot spots.
This is my choice when the neck is not so much hanging as it is thin and finely lined — the skin that looks like tissue paper in raking light. It helps sagging and wrinkles, encourages collagen renewal, and refines texture and pores. You can return to daily life straight away, and the usual rhythm is one or two sessions a year depending on your skin.
Thread lifting — for a neck that needs repositioning
Threads are placed under the skin after local anaesthesia and activate collagen along their path while physically supporting the tissue. This is the option with real downtime and the most immediate change in the line of the jaw and upper neck. Bruising and swelling can last one to two weeks, and re-treatment intervals differ by thread type — around three months for some, six months or more for others.
I suggest a neck thread lift when heat-based tightening has already been done and the patient wants more definition along the jawline, or when the looseness is clearly directional. Our PDO thread lifting guide covers thread types and aftercare in detail.

Comparison: which neck tightening procedure for which neck
| Ulthera Lifting | DENSITY (RF) | Thread lifting | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Works on | A deeper support layer | The dermis | Tissue position + collagen |
| Best for | Sagging, blurred jaw-neck angle | Crepey texture, fine neck lines | Definition along the jaw and upper neck |
| Feels like | Brief warm pulses at each point | Warmth moving over the skin, with cooling | Pressure after anaesthesia |
| Downtime | Back to your day right after | Back to daily life straight away | Bruising and swelling, about 1–2 weeks |
| Results show | Builds over roughly 2–3 months | Builds over roughly 2–3 months | Some change at once, settles over weeks |
| Session time | Under 30 minutes | One pass-and-cool cycle over the area | Longer, anaesthesia included |
If you have to choose one, choose by texture versus direction. Texture problem — start with radiofrequency. Direction problem — start with ultrasound. Definition problem after both — add threads. Results and how long they last vary from person to person, so this is a starting logic, not a formula.
Turkey neck treatment prices in Seoul
What changes the number is the amount of energy or material your neck needs: shot counts for ultrasound and radiofrequency, line counts for threads. The neck also often gets treated together with the lower face, because the jawline sits between them and treating one without the other looks odd. Every option below is the same published line a Korean patient pays, and prices exclude 10% VAT.

Several of the shot-count options also let you add one item — tightening injections, a domestic Dermatoxin, glutathione, or a Gold Accu injection — at no extra line cost. Which one I suggest depends on whether your neck needs more firmness, softer muscle movement, or less fullness. You can see every option and every number on the full price list.
What the visit looks like
- 01Structured consultation with an interpreter, then the head doctor examines the neck sitting and lying down.
- 02You cleanse, and the treatment area is marked — neck, jawline, and under the chin if needed.
- 03For threads, local anaesthesia first. For Ultherapy and DENSITY, no anaesthesia is needed for most people.
- 04The treatment itself: Ultherapy runs under 30 minutes; DENSITY is a warm pass-and-cool rhythm over the area.
- 05A modelling mask and sunscreen afterwards for the ultrasound protocol, then aftercare instructions in your language.
| When | What you notice |
|---|---|
| Day 0 | Mild redness or warmth. You can go back out into Myeongdong. |
| Days 1–3 | Sometimes a little tenderness when you press the area. Skin may feel slightly tight. |
| Weeks 2–4 | Texture starts looking smoother; the change is subtle at this stage. |
| Months 2–3 | Collagen renewal shows: firmer skin, a cleaner line under the chin. |
| Month 6+ | The effect fades gradually. Repeat interval is decided by how your skin holds it. |

The honest limits of non-surgical turkey neck treatment
I would rather you hear this before you book than after. Tightening treatments firm and rebuild; they do not remove skin. A neck with a large amount of hanging skin will improve in texture and firmness but will not become a young neck, and I say so at the consultation instead of selling more shots.
- Every procedure carries the possibility of side effects — redness, tenderness, bruising, swelling.
- Thread entry points can bruise, and swelling of one to two weeks is normal, not a complication.
- Fullness under the chin is volume, not looseness; heat will not move it.
- Results build slowly. Judging at two weeks is the most common mistake visitors make.
- Sun exposure on the front of the neck undoes the work faster than anything else.
If what bothers you sits higher — along the jaw rather than on the neck itself — read our piece on non-surgical jowls treatment first. It is a related problem with a slightly different answer, and treating the wrong one is the most common wasted appointment I see.

Questions people ask
Before you message us
What is a turkey neck and can it be treated without surgery?
Turkey neck is the loose, crepey skin that hangs between the chin and the collarbone, often with vertical cords that show when you talk. Non-surgical neck tightening procedures work by heating or threading the layers under the skin so they contract and rebuild collagen. They firm what is there rather than cutting anything away, so they suit mild to moderate looseness. Results and how long they last vary from person to person.
How much does turkey neck treatment cost in Seoul?
At Muse Clinic Myeongdong, Ulthera Lifting starts from ₩199,000, DENSITY radiofrequency from ₩169,000, and thread lifting from ₩100,000 — all excluding 10% VAT. The final number depends on how many shots or threads your neck needs, which is decided at the consultation. It is the same published list a Korean patient sees, and the current figures are always on the treatment pages.
Which works better for neck wrinkles: HIFU, RF or threads?
They answer different problems. Ultrasound lifting targets a deeper layer and suits a neck that is sagging downward. Radiofrequency works in the dermis and suits crepey, thin, finely lined skin. Threads physically reposition tissue and give the most immediate change. Many necks do best with a combination over a few months rather than one device alone. I decide after feeling the skin, not from a photo.
Is there downtime after a neck thread lift?
Yes, some. Threads are placed under local anaesthesia, and bruising or swelling can last around one to two weeks depending on your skin. You can wash your face and wear makeup after two or three hours, and we suggest a small dressing over the entry points for a day or two. Plan a thread lift for the start of a trip, not the day before a wedding.
How long do the results of neck tightening last?
For ultrasound and radiofrequency lifting, the firming builds over roughly two to three months as collagen renews, then slowly fades. DENSITY is usually repeated once or twice a year depending on your skin. Threads sit for months and the collagen they trigger outlasts the material. Ageing continues in the background, so maintenance matters more than any single session.
Can I treat a turkey neck on a short trip to Seoul?
Yes. Ultherapy takes under 30 minutes and you can go straight back to Myeongdong afterwards; DENSITY also lets you return to normal activity the same day. Threads need more recovery room in your schedule. We are one minute from Myeongdong Station Exit 5 and open Saturday and Sunday 09:00–15:00, so a weekend slot is realistic.
Results and maintenance period vary by individual. Every procedure carries the possibility of side effects, which are explained before you agree to treatment. Prices exclude 10% VAT and event prices may change. This article is general information from the clinic and is not a diagnosis; suitability is decided at the consultation.
