Thermage vs Ultherapy is the question I answer most often in lifting consultations, usually from someone who has read about both, priced both at home, and still cannot tell which one their face needs. The short version: they heat different layers. Ultrasound goes deep and narrow to pull; radiofrequency spreads through the dermis to tighten and thicken.
At Muse Clinic Myeongdong Ultherapy starts from ₩199,000 (excl. 10% VAT) for a first-visit trial, and Duet Thermage starts from ₩790,000 (excl. VAT). This page compares what each one actually does, how they feel, when the change shows, and which I would pick for which face.
What Ultherapy does: focused ultrasound to the deep layer
Ultherapy sends focused ultrasound through the skin surface and concentrates the heat at set depths, including the deep support layer that a surgeon would tighten. Those small heated points contract, and over the following weeks your body lays down new collagen around them. The visible effect is a jawline and cheek line that sit slightly higher, not a change in skin colour or pore size.
We use genuine Ultherapy tips, and you can check the product's originality before the session starts. The treatment itself takes under 30 minutes, and the list options run from 100 shots up to 900 shots, with a separate eye option. Our treatment list suggests it for people with sagging skin, loosened fat, and anyone who wants lifting without surgery.
- Best matched to: a dropping jawline, heavy lower cheeks, a softening neck line
- Mechanism: focused ultrasound heats small points in the deep layer so tissue contracts
- Session: under 30 minutes, consultation and cleansing first, mask and sunblock after
- Shot counts: 100, 300, 600 or 900 — more shots means more of the face covered
- Timing: the lift builds over 2–3 months rather than on the day
What Thermage does: radiofrequency across the whole dermis
Radiofrequency works differently. Instead of tiny deep points, it warms a broad volume of the dermis, which is where the collagen that gives skin its bounce sits. Duet Thermage is described on our list as radiofrequency lifting with neck wrinkle remodelling: it strengthens elasticity and activates collagen cells in the skin layer. The session takes about 15 to 20 minutes and you can resume your normal routine right away.
So the reward is different too. People come out of a radiofrequency session over the next couple of months saying their skin feels thicker and looks less crepey, particularly on the neck and around the mouth. It is the treatment I reach for when the complaint is texture and slackness, not weight dropping down the face.

Ultherapy vs Thermage side by side
| Ultherapy (ultrasound) | Duet Thermage (radiofrequency) | |
|---|---|---|
| What it heats | Small focused points at set depths, including the deep support layer | A broad volume of the dermis |
| Main reward | A jaw and cheek line that sit higher | Firmer, less crepey skin texture, including the neck |
| Feels like | Brief deep stings along each line of shots | A warm wave that builds, then cools |
| Session length | Under 30 minutes | About 15–20 minutes |
| After the session | Mild redness or warmth possible for a few hours | Back to your normal routine right away |
| When it shows | Builds over roughly 2–3 months | Builds over roughly 2–3 months |

What about eye Thermage and the eye area?
Eyelid skin is thin, moves constantly and sits over a small area, so it is treated with its own tip and depth settings rather than by running a face treatment closer to the lash line. Our list has an Eye Ultherapy 100-shot option, which can also be added on top of a 300-shot face session, and DENSITY has Classic Eye and High Eye 300-shot options.
DENSITY is worth knowing about if radiofrequency is the right category but ₩790,000 is more than you planned. It combines monopolar and bipolar radiofrequency, delivers up to 400W, cools the skin across five levels, and uses impedance feedback that adjusts for how much your own skin resists the energy. It starts from ₩169,000 (excl. VAT) and we suggest one to two sessions a year.
Thermage vs Ultherapy price in Seoul: the real numbers
Three things move the number on your bill: the device, the shot count, and whether the option includes an add-on such as a tightening injection or glutathione. Larger shot counts are not a luxury upgrade; they are how much surface area gets covered. A 100-shot session treats the jaw and lower cheeks, not a whole face and neck.

All prices exclude 10% VAT. Event prices run for a limited period and can change — the treatment pages always show the current numbers.
There is no separate foreigner menu. Visitors comparing Seoul against clinic prices at home often assume the quoted figure will grow at the counter; the line you are shown at consultation is the line on the public price list. If you want to read one device in depth first, we have longer notes on Ultherapy in Seoul and on Thermage in Seoul.
What the visit and the following months look like
The sequence is the same for both: a structured consultation with an interpreter, cleansing, the treatment itself performed by the head doctor, then a soothing mask or sunblock depending on the device. Results and how long they last vary from person to person, so treat the table below as the usual shape of things rather than a promise.
| When | What you notice |
|---|---|
| Day 0 | Skin may look flushed and feel warm. Some people see a slight tightness immediately; makeup is fine the same day. |
| Days 1–7 | Any redness settles. Tender spots along the jaw or cheekbone can appear after ultrasound and fade. |
| Weeks 2–6 | New collagen is forming. Skin starts to feel denser; the change is easier to feel than to photograph. |
| Months 2–3 | The clearest point. Jaw and neck lines look cleaner in photos taken from the same angle as before. |
| Month 6+ | The effect gradually softens. Repeat intervals are planned by device and by how your skin held the result. |
Risks, and the part worth hearing before you book
Both treatments put heat into living tissue, so side effects are possible and you should hear them before you agree to anything. The common ones are short-lived. The uncommon ones are the reason the doctor, not a machine setting, decides the energy level.
- Redness, warmth or mild swelling for a few hours after the session
- Tenderness along treated lines for several days, more common with ultrasound
- Small bruises where the skin is thin, such as along the jaw border
- Very slim faces can look hollower if energy is pushed too high — this is why the plan is set by hand and by skin thickness
- Numbness or tingling in a treated area that settles on its own is uncommon but possible
Why visitors book lifting at Muse Clinic Myeongdong
One price list, identical to what a Korean patient pays, with every option published online. English, Japanese and Chinese interpreters in the clinic, staying with you from consultation through treatment. And a structured consultation that leads into one-to-one treatment planned and performed by Dr. Sarang Lim, rather than a plan written by one person and carried out by another.

For trip planning: we are a one-minute walk from Myeongdong Station Exit 5, also close to Hoehyeon Station Exit 7 across from Shinsegae, on the 3rd floor of the building with a Twosome Place café at street level. Open Monday to Friday 10:00–20:00 and Saturday to Sunday 09:00–15:00, so a weekend session between shopping days is realistic. If your main concern is a heavy jawline rather than skin quality, read our note on non-surgical options for jowls first.
Questions people ask
Before you message us
Thermage vs Ultherapy: which one should I choose?
Choose by the problem, not by the brand. If the lower face and jawline have dropped and you want the deep layer pulled up, ultrasound-based Ultherapy is the usual answer. If the skin looks crepey, loose in texture and thin across the cheeks and neck, radiofrequency suits better. I check both by hand at the consultation, and results vary from person to person.
How much do Ultherapy and Thermage cost in Seoul?
At Muse Clinic Myeongdong, Ultherapy starts from ₩199,000 excl. 10% VAT for a first-visit 100-shot trial, and Duet Thermage starts from ₩790,000 excl. VAT. DENSITY, our other radiofrequency lifting device, starts from ₩169,000 excl. VAT. Every number is the same list a Korean patient sees, and the full list with all options is published on our treatments page.
Is there an eye version of these lifting treatments?
Yes. The price list includes an Eye Ultherapy 100-shot option, which can also be added to a 300-shot face session, and DENSITY has Classic Eye and High Eye 300-shot options. The eye area is thin skin over a small area, so the tip, depth and shot count are different from the face. The doctor confirms which one fits your eyelids at the consultation.
Can I have both Thermage and Ultherapy?
They heat different layers, so they are not the same treatment done twice. Whether you need one, the other, or both spaced apart is decided at the consultation after I feel where your skin is loose and how thick it is. I would rather do one thing properly on a short trip than split a budget across two half sessions.
How long do the results last?
Both work by heating tissue so your own collagen remodels, so the change builds over roughly two to three months and then holds for a while before gravity catches up again. For DENSITY we suggest one to two sessions a year, adjusted for your skin. Results and how long they last vary from person to person, mainly with age, skin thickness and how much laxity you started with.
Does it hurt, and is there downtime?
Both feel like heat, not like a needle. Ultrasound is a brief deep sting at each line of shots; radiofrequency is a warm wave that builds and then cools. Ultherapy takes under 30 minutes and Duet Thermage about 15 to 20 minutes. After radiofrequency you can return to your day straight away. Mild redness or warmth for a few hours is possible with either.
Results and maintenance period vary by individual. Every procedure carries the possibility of side effects, which are explained before you agree to treatment. Prices exclude 10% VAT and event prices may change. This article is general information from the clinic and is not a diagnosis; suitability is decided at the consultation.
